FINANCES FOR SPECIAL NEEDS INDIVIDUALS Tax filing day is less than a week away! Each year, we try to adjust the amount withheld so that we will neither owe payment nor receive a refund at tax time. This time of year many people review their finances: income, expenses, savings, and retirement funds. Individuals with Special Needs often need payment for special equipment or other accommodations. Caregivers may have questions about how to set up a special fund for the individual to cover these expenses, without affecting the income from government programs. There are financial advisors who specialize in this type of fund management. Laws affecting finances for special needs individuals can change with amendments and vary from state to state. Here are some resources that may be helpful (thanks to my friend Donna, who is a Special Mom!).
